Starting Module 2

After completing Module 1 I felt pleasantly surprised by my results and glad my efforts had paid off. Going forwards  I have a lot more confidence and any uncertainty will not allow me to question my self as it did before.

For Module 2 I have been reflecting on my own teaching experience and have observed different teachers and companies over time and often wondered about how we've developed our teaching approaches to what we have rested on today. I would like to explore the past and present theories on what has worked, evolved and been achieved over time in order to get the quality of teaching that should be in place now.

Above is a mind map of different contributing factors that need to be addressed whilst teaching dance, I feel this would be a great topic for me as its something I am extremely interested in and excited to start researching. :)

  1. Hi Amanda,
great blog post! I love how you already got an idea in mind, I would say continue with it. Always has interested me as to why teachers teach the way they do. Other aspects to take into consideration is the different types of learners a teacher deals with and does that affect the way their teaching style is. I know on my past experiences being a student at dance college some of my peers would find it easier to learn in the mirror and more visually some really relied on counts and some people preferred the names of moves one after the other. In addition, does it depend on style of dance as I know when it came to ballet using ballet terms made the most sense.

Can't wait to see where this goes.

  2. Hi Portia, Thank for the comment!
For module one I looked into their learning styles and found it really interesting. I am going to research some other aspects such as discipline , punishment, motivation and resilience and how we enforce/encourage this. It is something that has interested me for a long time as approaches vary from teacher to teacher.

  3. Hi Amanda,
Also agree, this blog is great and something I can also personally relate too. I currently work in primary schools so my point of view might be slightly different but it is very interesting to see how teaching styles and behaviour approaches can be so different from school to school. Some schools have a great system running throughout the whole school so from day one in reception they are imbedding certain disciplines and vice versa certain rewards. This structure is clear to see throughout the school and to me personally really works. However other schools leave it down to the teachers to individually set their own discipline rules which could be imbedded into the children for a year and then its back to square one when they move to their next class teacher. There is no continuity and therefore I don't see as much progress with behaviour.
I really look forward to seeing where you go with this idea!
