Starting module 3


With module three on the horizon I am becoming more and more intrigued to start my inquiry. The element that is motivating me the most is the survey responses I collect and what themes will be presented from what opinions are given. 

I have never asked for teachers to express their thoughts and feelings in this way and believe it will be very informative for everyone involved, I hope to discover answers from participants that I've never considered myself as well as other eye opening responses.

Analysis

 During our Zoom meeting on the 6.02.23 we were asked to express 2 types of analysis, the first was one we were most confident to define, the second we were most unsure of.  Thematic Analysis  This type of analysis to me has a very simple concept, it is about gathering data, then analyzing the responses to find common trends and themes within the information presented. This could be in the form of similar opinions, ideas and/or repetition of keys words. I will be using this form of analysis extensively as my data will consist of survey responses.  Hermeneutics  This is a concept that I believe I can explain effectively but putting it into practice and showing examples would be challenging for me. As the basis of hermeneutics is about interpretation Sam gave some very helpful examples of how this is shown.  Imagine Celine Dion performing on stage and shouting 'shall we do it!'. We would look at how the audience interprets this, the band and the media etc....

Social Media and the Internet in the Big Wide World

 Social media is a debatable topic for which I find essential yet detestable at the same time.  Bear with me.......... We thrive and depend on Social Media/Internet as if it were a guardian or parent, we look to it for answers and guidance on a daily basis. As dancers we use social media to support our careers to an astronomical amount, we depend on it so much. Do we use it a bit too much?  ‘ with a network of support that will help us when we are in need’ (Crisp and Turner, 2007 p.266). As a professional dancer you begin as a fully formed business, to sell yourself, social media allows us to: Promote ourselves - using platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and YouTube to advertise our skills, showreels, credits and images.   Access castings  - finding websites such as Starnow, Mandy Actors, Facebook and Spotlight to find the latest jobs and auditions.  Communication - to interact with other teachers and professionals in the dance community.
