Analysis

During our Zoom meeting on the 6.02.23 we were asked to express 2 types of analysis, the first was one we were most confident to define, the second we were most unsure of.  Thematic Analysis  This type of analysis to me has a very simple concept, it is about gathering data, then analyzing the responses to find common trends and themes within the information presented. This could be in the form of similar opinions, ideas and/or repetition of keys words. I will be using this form of analysis extensively as my data will consist of survey responses.  Hermeneutics  This is a concept that I believe I can explain effectively but putting it into practice and showing examples would be challenging for me. As the basis of hermeneutics is about interpretation Sam gave some very helpful examples of how this is shown.  Imagine Celine Dion performing on stage and shouting 'shall we do it!'. We would look at how the audience interprets this, the band and the media etc....

Starting module 3

With module three on the horizon I am becoming more and more intrigued to start my inquiry. The element that is motivating me the most is the survey responses I collect and what themes will be presented from what opinions are given.  I have never asked for teachers to express their thoughts and feelings in this way and believe it will be very informative for everyone involved, I hope to discover answers from participants that I've never considered myself as well as other eye opening responses.

Starting Module 2

After completing Module 1 I felt pleasantly surprised by my results and glad my efforts had paid off. Going forwards  I have a lot more confidence and any uncertainty will not allow me to question my self as it did before.   For Module 2 I have been reflecting on my own teaching experience and have observed different teachers and companies over time and often wondered about how we've developed our teaching approaches to what we have rested on today. I would like to explore the past and present theories on what has worked, evolved and been achieved over time in order to get the quality of teaching that should be in place now.  Above is a mind map of different contributing factors that need to be addressed whilst teaching dance, I feel this would be a great topic for me as its something I am extremely interested in and excited to start researching. :)

Social Media and the Internet in the Big Wide World

Social media is a debatable topic for which I find essential yet detestable at the same time.  Bear with me.......... We thrive and depend on Social Media/Internet as if it were a guardian or parent, we look to it for answers and guidance on a daily basis. As dancers we use social media to support our careers to an astronomical amount, we depend on it so much. Do we use it a bit too much?  ‘ with a network of support that will help us when we are in need’ (Crisp and Turner, 2007 p.266). As a professional dancer you begin as a fully formed business, to sell yourself, social media allows us to: Promote ourselves - using platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and YouTube to advertise our skills, showreels, credits and images.   Access castings  - finding websites such as Starnow, Mandy Actors, Facebook and Spotlight to find the latest jobs and auditions.  Communication - to interact with other teachers and professionals in the dance community. 'form close...
Areas of Learning - Self Worth/Confidence As dancers I think we all question ourselves, I certainly do! Am I good enough? How do other people perceive me? Will I ever be satisfied with myself? This is a psychological battle I went through with most of my college and audition experiences. Having ADHD, I take much longer to learn material than most, and having this uncertainty made my confidence plummet. I would stand at the back of a class, always be the last to volunteer and blend into the crowd at auditions. I had a lot of barriers to overcome, with the unforgiving essence of auditions, I knew I had to find another way of interpreting the steps.  Counting was the least helpful, unrelatable to the movement and monotonous. Instead I found noises or singing the steps with the tune of the song was preferable.  Reflecting on this has made me realise the processes which come into play for a variety of situations and obstacles.
Hi Everyone! My name is Amanda and I have been a dance professional for 10 years. I studied at Leicester College of Performing Arts and since have worked around the world on cruise ships, hotels and holiday parks. I have also been a teacher for around 6 years and have worked with a variety of abilities, ages and styles.  I look forward to conversing with some like minded people and I'm very excited to start my Reflective Practice journey. 😀 "Reflection is the process of learning from experience" (Dewey and Boydston, 2008).
